I Could Have Been A Nurse!

day 598

I almost became a nurse.  Yes you read it here first folks.  It wasn't my own thought, but the thought of my father.  Yep, that one balled bastard wanted me to go to nursing school.  He became very ill and was hospitalized during my senior year of high school.  The old man had a visiting nurse and she commented on how helpful I was and she said I would make a great nurse.  The old man thought that would be the perfect thing for me.  I guess he figured it would tame my wild ways or something.  Who knows.  So I started to think about having a career in nursing.   In my head I pictured myself as a nurse on some hit TV show and that wouldn't be so bad.   I could save the world on TV.   I was inches away from attending nursing school but then something hit me, I don't like people that much.  I can tolerate them for a little while but I could never see them getting well in my care.  People carry so many weird germs and I am a borderline Monk when it comes to germs.  Then I thought maybe I could be a pediatrics nurse since I love children so much.  I love them much more than grown-up people.  However, I hate seeing children in peril so that would not work either.  Plus children carry more germs that grown-ups and they pick their nose and get snot, drool and poo on everything.   It started to seem like a really gross thing.  More gross thoughts came about, like what if I walked into a patients room and they were eating eggs for breakfast.  Then I realized nurses wear white.  OH NO I JUST CAN'T DO THIS!!

I think about all the things I've done since turning down nursing school.  Some of my adventures were amazing and others no so amazing. I did get a chance to play a nurse in two different plays and I KICKED ASS!!!!!! You know  I often wonder what life would have been like if I did go to nursing school.  I might be living in a  really nice house with a dog and two goldfish. Maybe a swimming pool and a fireplace too.  I know I would have never started smoking and my TV addiction might not even exist.  I probably would have never had time to watch L O S T or even meet The Monkees.  When I look back on my life I think I made the right choice.  However, I just learned that two of my nurse friends make a great deal of money each year.  They are also very savvy when it comes to money.  These ladies are living a very busy, stressful life.  They hardly have time for friends, concerts, movies, or TV, but they are also rolling in the dough.    If I had become a nurse I know I would not have met the folks that I know and love.  The  good folks I call my friends.  Friends are a lot better than money.  Friends, at least MY friends are better than most germ carrying people.  My friends are clean and really groovy too.  I'd rather be rolling with my homies than rolling in the dough.

Off to enjoy another sunny, SUNNY day!
